How extraction works

Your image is downscaled and every pixel is sorted into color buckets. The most frequent buckets become palette candidates, and near-duplicates are merged so you get distinct, useful colors instead of ten shades of beige. Each swatch shows its hex and RGB values, ready to copy.

Using the palette

Designers pull palettes from photography to keep brands, slides and websites visually coherent. Extract from a hero image and reuse the colors for headings, buttons and backgrounds, and everything on the page will feel like it belongs together.

Palette Extractor FAQs

How many colors can I extract?
Choose 4, 6, 8 or 10. Six is a good default: enough variety for a design system without noise.
Why do similar shades get merged?
Near-duplicate buckets are combined so the palette shows distinct colors. Without merging, photos often produce ten nearly identical swatches.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is analyzed in your browser's memory and never sent to any server.
What image formats work?
Anything your browser can display: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and more. Very large images are downscaled automatically for speed.
Can I copy all hex codes at once?
Click individual swatches to copy them one by one, which is fastest for dropping colors into design tools.
