How the conversion works

Your HTML is parsed into a tree, then each element is mapped to Markdown: h1 to h6 become hash headings, strong becomes double asterisks, links become [text](url), and tables become pipe tables with a separator row. Scripts, styles and head content are skipped automatically.

Why convert HTML to Markdown

Markdown is easier to read, diff and edit than raw HTML. Converting a web page or an email template gives you portable plain text for notes, documentation, CMS imports and static site generators.

HTML to Markdown FAQs

Are tables supported?
Yes. Table rows become pipe tables with a header separator. Colspan, rowspan and nested tables are flattened, so complex layouts may need manual cleanup.
What happens to images?
Images become ![alt](src) Markdown. Relative src paths are kept as written, so resolve them against the original page URL if you republish.
Is formatting like divs preserved?
No. Pure layout elements like div and span contribute only their text, since Markdown has no equivalent. Semantic elements like headings, lists and quotes are fully converted.
Can it handle a full web page?
Yes. Paste the page source and the converter uses the body content, skipping scripts, styles and navigation boilerplate structure where possible.
Is my HTML uploaded?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser, so page content never leaves your device.
