How the conversion works

Paste your HTML Table on the left and press Convert. The tool first parses the HTML Table (reading the first

element and using its th cells as column names) into an internal table of rows and columns, then writes it out as Markdown Table (rendering header, separator and data rows with escaped pipes). If the input cannot be parsed you get a plain-English error instead of a broken file.

Where this comes in handy

People reach for this converter when reusing tables copied from web pages or documentation and a Markdown table is needed for docs or wikis. Because everything runs locally in your browser, it is also handy for quick one-off migrations without installing database tools or writing throwaway scripts.

HTML Table to MD FAQs

Which table is converted if my paste has several?
The first <table> element in your paste is used. To convert a different one, paste only that table's HTML source.
What happens to merged cells with colspan or rowspan?
Merged cells are read as the plain text of each td or th in row order. The spanned layout is not reconstructed, so check that the column count looks right.
Are pipes inside cells escaped?
Yes, as \| so the table structure never breaks no matter what the cell text contains.
Does it include the separator row?
Yes. A --- separator line is generated under the header, which is required for the table to render.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device.
