Hreflang Generator

Generate hreflang tags for free. Add each language version of a page with its URL, include an x-default fallback, and copy clean link tags for your head section.

Language versions

Add one row per language version of the page.

Generated tags

Add at least one language version.

SEO tip: every language version should list all versions including itself, and each page should link back to the others.

What hreflang tags do

Hreflang tells Google which language and regional version of a page to show each searcher. Without it, translated pages compete with each other and visitors can land on the wrong language.

Each tag pairs a language code like id or en-gb with the full URL of that version. The x-default tag names the fallback page for unmatched languages.

Using the generated tags

Paste the full tag set into the head of every language version, not just one. Each page must reference all versions including itself, and the links must be reciprocal.

Use absolute URLs with https, and keep language codes in the standard format: lowercase language, optional uppercase-free region like pt-br.

Hreflang Generator FAQs

Do I need hreflang if I only have one language?
No. Hreflang is only for sites with multiple language or regional versions of the same content.
What is x-default for?
It names the fallback page shown to users whose language matches none of your versions, often a language selector or your main homepage.
Should each page list itself?
Yes. Every language version should include the complete set of tags, including a self-referencing one for its own URL.
Can I use relative URLs?
No. Hreflang href values must be absolute URLs including the protocol, otherwise search engines may ignore them.
How long until Google applies them?
After recrawling the pages, usually days to weeks. Use Search Console to check that the tags were picked up.
