What the numbers mean

The savings figure is the discount in dollars: what stays in your pocket. The final price is what you actually pay at the register. Both come from one multiplication, so there is no rounding trick hiding anywhere.

Stacked discounts

Two discounts in a row do not add up: 20% off then 10% off is not 30% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so the real total is 28% off. Run the tool twice, feeding the first final price in as the second original price.

Discount Calculator FAQs

How do you calculate a discount price?
Multiply the original price by (1 - discount/100). A $80 item at 25% off is $80 x 0.75 = $60, saving $20.
Do two discounts add together?
No. A 20% discount followed by 10% applies the 10% to the already-discounted price, giving 28% off in total, not 30%.
How do I find the discount percent from two prices?
Divide the savings by the original price and multiply by 100. A $60 sale price on an $80 item is (($80 - $60) / $80) x 100 = 25% off.
What does 50% off plus an extra 20% off mean?
The extra 20% applies after the first cut: $100 becomes $50, then $40. The combined discount is 60%, not 70%.
