How the translation works

Each letter maps to a Unicode Braille pattern from U+2800 to U+28FF using the standard six-dot cell. Capitals get the ⠠ capital sign, digit runs get the ⠼ number sign, and common punctuation like commas and periods has its own cell. Decoding reverses the mapping, including the number and capital indicators.

A note on real Braille

This tool produces standard English Braille patterns for display, fun text effects and learning. True Braille transcription for print involves contractions, formatting rules and language specific codes, so do not use this for accessibility publishing without expert review.

Braille Unicode FAQs

Which characters are supported?
Letters a to z, digits 0 to 9, and common punctuation: comma, period, question mark, exclamation, colon, semicolon, hyphen and apostrophe. Other characters pass through unchanged.
How are capital letters shown?
A capital letter is preceded by the ⠠ capital sign, following standard Braille convention. Decoding strips the sign and restores the uppercase letter.
How are numbers shown?
Digit runs are preceded by the ⠼ number sign, and digits reuse the letters a to j cells. Decoding converts them back to 0 to 9 automatically.
Can screen readers read the output?
Most screen readers announce Unicode Braille patterns by their dot numbers, not as letters, so the output is decorative rather than accessible. Use real text for accessibility.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Translation runs entirely in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.
