How it calculates

Expressions are evaluated with a small recursive-descent parser, so 2+3x4 correctly gives 14, not 20. No eval() is used: input is tokenized into numbers and operators first, which keeps the calculator safe from code injection.

Buttons and keys

Every button has a keyboard equivalent: digits, + - * / % ( ), Enter for equals, Backspace to delete and Escape to clear. The +/- key wraps the current number in a negation, and % converts it to a hundredth.

Basic Calculator FAQs

Does it follow order of operations?
Yes. Multiplication, division and percent bind tighter than addition and subtraction, just like school math.
What does the % button do?
It turns the current number into a percentage of one: 50 becomes 0.5. So 200+10% computes as 200+0.1.
Why no square root or powers?
This is the basic four-function calculator. Scientific functions live in their own tools on this site.
Can I type long expressions?
Yes. Type freely with the keyboard, including parentheses, and press Enter.
Is my calculation sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
