How the waveform is drawn

Your file is decoded with the Web Audio API into raw samples, entirely in your browser. The tool scans the samples in vertical slices and draws the peak amplitude of each slice as a bar, giving the classic waveform silhouette where loud sections look tall and quiet sections look flat.

Reading the metadata

Alongside the picture you get the exact duration, the sample rate (44100 Hz is CD quality), the channel count, and the file size. Together they tell you at a glance whether a file is a lightweight voice memo or a full-quality master.

Audio Waveform Viewer FAQs

Which audio formats work?
Anything your browser decodes: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A/AAC, FLAC and WebM audio. If the browser cannot play it, the waveform cannot be drawn.
Why does my MP3 show flat sections?
Flat near-zero sections are silence or very quiet passages. Long flat stretches at the start or end are leading/trailing silence you could trim in an editor.
Can I edit or trim the audio here?
No. This is a viewer: it renders the waveform and reports specs. Use a desktop editor like Audacity for cutting and processing.
What does clipping look like?
Loud sections that hit the top and bottom edges and stay flat-topped are clipped, meaning the recording exceeded maximum level and distorted. Re-record quieter rather than trying to fix it.
Is my audio uploaded?
Never. Decoding, drawing and playback all happen from a local object URL in your tab.
