How browser recording works

The tool asks your browser for microphone access, then captures audio with the MediaRecorder API straight to your device memory. A live level meter confirms the mic is hearing you while the timer runs.

When you stop, the recording is assembled locally and offered as a download. At no point does audio travel over the network.

Getting clean recordings

Record in a quiet room, keep the mic 15 to 30 cm from your mouth, and watch the level meter: aim for strong movement without pinning at maximum, which causes distortion.

Output is WebM with Opus audio, which plays in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Convert to MP3 with an audio converter if you need wider compatibility.

Audio Recorder FAQs

Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require explicit permission before any site can use your mic. You can revoke it anytime in the site settings.
What format is the download?
WebM with Opus audio. It is compact and high quality, playable in modern browsers and convertible to MP3.
Is there a recording time limit?
No fixed limit, but very long recordings use more memory. For hour-long sessions, a dedicated app is more reliable.
Can I record system audio?
No. This captures microphone input only. System audio capture needs screen-recording permissions instead.
Is my voice uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording and playback happen entirely on your device.
